about
At the core of the 3D generalist practice within the studio is the challenge of seamlessly blending the organic with the digital. For the Swedish heritage ice cream brand SIA Glass, this pre-AI workflow meant taking live-action plates and engineering a fully photo-real, animated stick insect (vandrande pinne) from the ground up. The process required an exact observation of nature: analyzing how light behaves on translucent, fibrous insect shells and understanding the unique, halting rhythm of micro-movements that define the creature's behavior.
With the end-to-end pipeline in place, the project came to life through detailed modeling and procedural texturing to match the organic complexity of the real world. A custom animation skeleton was built in 3ds Max using the CAT rig system, enabling precise, characterful motion that felt structurally sound and grounded in reality.
The final phase focused heavily on technical compositing, meticulously integrating the 3D asset into the live-action environment. By matching the lens optics, grain, and environmental lighting of the original footage, the digital medium became invisible. The result was a seamless, playful, and cohesive commercial sequence where technical execution stepped into the background, allowing the charm of the character and the narrative to take center stage.
